Apple – Environment – A letter from Bob Mansfield

In the span of a week, Apple removed its products from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), citing some of its design techniques (sealed-in batteries and displays), as well as adherence to goals the EPEAT does not yet measure.

Today, its registered products and a few more are back on the list, announced in a letter from Bob Mansfield, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. The EPEAT also announced the next step for IEEE 1680.1, an emerging standard for electronic performance and environmental care that Mansfield says Apple already applies in its product design.

Sidenote: “I recognize this was a mistake” is among the words I wasn’t expecting to read on Apple.com anytime soon.

flattr this!
