Impressive new product from TypePad in the surprising form of a Facebook application. Blog It allows cross-blogging to around a dozen blogging and microblogging services like TypePad, WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger, Twitter, Pownce, etc.
Microblogging services (also known as “status services”) like Twitter are separated into their own tab within the app, but notifications (with links) for real blog posts can still be sent to those services for easy notification. Smart move.
A demo video walks through the main features. Power bloggers will likely be disappointed by the minimal blogging integration (ex: no tags or categories, and rich text support is coming in a future version), but this looks like a generally handy app, or at least when in a pinch.
I still can’t help but think that, at least in a way, it’s bizarre for TypePad to release this strictly as a Facebook app. There’s no option for using it outside of Facebook (something like typepad.com/blogit), but the mountain of eyeballs an app like this will snag for TypePad’s various products was probably a driving force for the decision.
