ecto3 alpha released | TUAW
If you’ve ever wondered what I use to write 1FPS and my other ventures, ecto has been it for years. Soon I’ll use it on my personal Vox blog too, as Adriaan Tijsseling has stated he’s working on a plug-in for it. While Daniel Jalkut’s MarsEdit is a great blogging app, I’ve always preferred ecto because of its awesome integration with Mac OS X (an iPhoto + iTunes browser, etc.), toggling between rich text and HTML editing and its ability to bring in info from other web services, such as allowing me to blog stuff from Amazon and automatically insert my affiliate code to make a few bucks. This new ecto3 looks great, and I blogged this entry in it. Very excited for the final product.

After long negotiations, sacrificing a few things around the house and a lot of ‘have your people call my people’ with my manager (read: my wife, Jessi), we have been able to green-light the purchase of an iPhone. A triumph of both personal and professional interests since I’ll have a lot of iPhone-related blogging to do for TUAW and Download Squad, as well as writing for an Apple-related book I’m contributing to, I am definitely excited for such a (hopefully) rocktastic gadget.
As another perk, I realized that the iPhone might be the first mobile phone that can actually handle the CMS we use to run TUAW and Download Squad, which means I can probably perform at least some of my Assistant Lead-related duties for DLS from the wonders of my phone instead of being glued to my Mac all the time. This, as you might guess, is also a victory for spending more time with my family and on other hobbies.
The fact that the iPhone will be a tax write-off will be another perk, especially since I plan on purchasing Jessi a new Sprint phone she so badly needs around the middle or end of July. It’s just too bad it’s a Sprint phone, y’know?

Holy CRAP - while browsing some RapidWeaver themes in Camino 1.5, nearly half the apps I had open spontaneously and simultaneously killed themselves. Not seen here are Twitterrific and Photoshop CS3 also crashing - wtf?
Potential Mac purchasing friends of mine (you know who you are) and strangers, don’t take this to heart. I blog about software for a living which means I play with a *lot* of crap sometimes, and that includes beta and otherwise unstable programs - all in the name of readers. After this crash I still had nearly a dozen apps running, half of which are in beta or possibly alpha.
Good news is that I started them all back up again and everything is fine, and so is the rest of Mac OS X. One week of continuous uptime and still counting.

Hot or Not Tears Itself Apart, Reinvents | Techcrunch
The premium revenue, plus advertising and fees for virtual flowers, soon topped $600,000 per month. Nearly all of that was profit for the two founders, who reportedly pocketed $20 million or so between them over the years. The company has never raised any outside funding.
Holy crap - I always figured the site made money, but never on that scale. They recently had to reinvent their business model however, due to competition.
Microsoft’s bumpin’ Zune SUV disturbs the New York peace - Engadget
Dubbed an “egregious display of noise terrorism,” the 3:00AM blasting from a (presumably Microsoft owned) Toyota FJ Cruiser didn’t garner the positive attention that the firm was apparently hoping for, and consequently, quite a few residents of the area are now flaming mad and demanding restitution.
Let me guess: that ‘restitution’ involves handing out free Zunes to calm the public. Brilliant!
