Dom Leca, Sparrow’s CEO:
We care a lot about how people communicate, and we did our best to provide you with the most intuitive and pleasurable mailing experience.
Now we’re joining the Gmail team to accomplish a bigger vision — one that we think we can better achieve with Google.
First reaction: congratulations to the Sparrow team. It’s a fantastic Mac and iPhone client and they deserve any success that comes to them.
Second reaction: Google has ruined a lot of its acquisitions, including Dodgeball (a Foursquare before there was Foursquare) and Jaiku, and I’d hate to see that happen to one of the Mac and iPhone’s best email clients.
I certainly don’t want to have to start +1-ing emails just to be able to respond to them.
Third reaction: take a deep breath, let’s see what happens.
Fourth reaction: awe crap, never mind. From the email Sparrow just sent to its users: “As we’ll be busy with new projects at Google, we do not plan to release new features for the Sparrow apps.”
Whelp, that was fun while it lasted. Great question from Gus Mueller, of Acorn and VoodooPad fame:
I wonder if Sparrow’s future would have been different if they hadn’t taken VC money.
